Which is better for content creators, is it TikTok, Instagram reels, or Youtube shorts?

TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube shorts have been on the tremendous rise in recent years, becoming popular platforms for short-form video content. TikTok, originally known as Douyin in China, was launched in September 2016 by the Chinese company Byte Dance. The app quickly gained popularity among teenagers and young adults, who used it to create and share short videos set to music and sync it to make dance and singing videos. TikTok's algorithm, which uses machine learning to recommend content to users based on their interests, helped the app go viral. By 2020, TikTok had over 2 billion downloads worldwide and was valued at over $100 billion.

In response to TikTok's success, Instagram, owned by Facebook, launched Reels in August 2020. Reels allow users to create and share short videos set to music, similar to TikTok. The feature was integrated into the existing Instagram app, making it easily accessible to the platform's existing user base. Instagram has invested heavily in promoting Reels, and it has become a popular feature among users. Both TikTok and Instagram Reels have become popular platforms for creators to share short-form content and gain a following. Many creators have become popular on these platforms and have even turned their TikTok or Instagram Reels fame into successful careers. Now, even third-entrant YouTube shorts have started becoming popular which is integrated with the main YouTube app/website, also YouTube shorts can be monetized by their creators.

However, TikTok has also been the subject of controversy. The US government has expressed national security concerns over the app's parent company, Byte Dance, and its ties to China. This led to the US government threatening to ban the app, but as of now, it is not banned. In India, it’s already banned and the shady company privacy policy of TikTok is a big drawback for users and can be a deal breaker for many. TikTok has the best algorithm though as they are the ones who made it first but again their safety policy in censorship and privacy is very bad and so we don’t recommend anyone to use this app, especially kids.

Instagram Reels, on the other hand, have better features and are much more suited for content creation but even their privacy settings can be a grey area as it owned by Facebook which is infamous for its user tracking so that they can sell the user data to potential advertisers but much better than TikTok and less invasive compared to them, lastly, YouTube shorts even though it has fewer features to edit videos and users have lesser control on it, we feel it’s the best platform for short-form videos simply because YouTube has been the pioneer in supporting user-generated video content and given their track record of user drive platform it’s no surprise people will trust YouTube more than Facebook, it’s not perfect though but best of the options available.

In conclusion, avoid TikTok at all costs but both Instagram Reels and YouTube shorts are good enough both have unique strengths and weaknesses and so use both for better reach and enjoy the content creation journey don’t take all the stats so seriously. Cheers!
